O u r r o o t s
We are deeply rooted here in South Tyrol. Our family has a strong connection to wine, particularly to the indigenous grape varieties Schiava and Lagrein. Schiava has been grown here for over 800 years, making it a significant part of our history and culture. The vineyards around Bolzano have been documented for over 1,000 years.
14th Century
How it all began
The Glögglhof in S. Maddalena near Bolzano dates back to the 14th century. The thick stone walls tell of another time.
From the beginning
Own production
The grapes from our vineyards have always been refined into wine at the Glögglhof.
AFTER 1918
Auction
After World War I, difficult times prevailed: the then-owner, Matthias Wenter, had to auction the estate out of necessity. His daughter Anna made the highest bid, determined to keep the Glögglhof in the family, and later passed it on to her daughter Marianne.
since 1970
Bottling
Franz Gojer was a pioneer in the S. Maddalena wine region: he reduced yields, increased quality, and began bottling wine, breaking with the tradition of selling wine in barrels.
1987
Creation of a selection
As the best quality grows in the Rondell vineyard year after year, Franz bottles the wine from this small vineyard ‘Vigna’ (called ‘Cru’ in France) under his own label. The Vigna Rondell gradually becomes the flagship of the Glögglhof.
2007
Expansion
At Cornedo all’Isarco, at 600 meters above sea level, a farm with 3 hectares of vineyards was acquired, marking a significant step for the family’s business development.
SINCE 2010
First white wines
After replanting the vineyard in Cornedo all’Isarco, the range was expanded to include Kerner, Sauvignon, and Pinot Blanc. The cool, exposed location is ideal for these varieties.
2011
Wine for Friends
Inspired by a trip to the Douro Valley in Portugal, Franz decided to produce a Port-style liqueur wine. After years of experimentation and gifting samples to friends, the first PIPA was bottled in 2011.
2019
Expansion of the cellar in Cornedo all'Isarco
After years of using 2 cellars, the decision was made to consolidate production in one location. After renovation work, the entire harvest could be cellared in Cornedo all’Isarco in 2020.
An architecturally interesting tasting room with a view over the vineyards and Bolzano was also built as part of the project.
2021
Transfer of Operations
After completing his studies and an internship abroad, Florian returned home in 2009. In 2021, Franz handed over the business to his son, making the Glögglhof a fifth-generation family enterprise.
